Out of your head, into your body

Out of your head, into your body: a real challenge if you're dealing with PTSD and long-term stress

Does this sound like you?

E

You constantly analyze everything rationally, but find it difficult to truly feel your emotions or fully experience life’s events.

E

Or you may be highly sensitive or intuitive, yet you “escape” the overwhelming stimuli of daily life by disconnecting from your body, or avoiding being fully present in it.

E

You have little contact with your body. You’re pretty much a walking head.

E

You struggle to fully enjoy life because you’re constantly preoccupied with what’s happening in your head.

E

At times, it feels like you’re not truly living, as if you’re just going through the motions on autopilot.

E

You have logical explanations for what’s happening in your life, and perhaps even well-thought-out plans for change, yet you find yourself stuck in the same unwanted patterns, repeating them over and over.

E

You’ve heard or read that the body holds deep wisdom, but how do you even get there?

Some problems cannot be solved by thinking about them any longer. Some things need to be felt before they can be let go.

Out of your head and into your body: how I can help

For many people, getting out of their head and into their body is easier said than done. This becomes even more challenging when trauma or PTSD is involved. Sometimes, the sheer volume of emotions and sensations can feel overwhelming, and as a protective mechanism, your subconscious may cause you to “check out” or disconnect. In other cases, you may simply have never learned how to truly be present in your body and feel everything that’s there, instead of being caught up in constant mental chatter.

However, learning to reconnect with your body and fully experience its sensations can make your life feel richer and more fulfilling. By practicing mindfulness and body awareness, you can start to break free from the grip of overthinking and begin to live more fully in the present moment.

I can support you throughout this journey, guiding you step by step as you gently shift from being caught in your head to fully reconnecting with your body. In our sessions, we will draw on a range of proven practices and effective tools from somatic coaching, Somatic Experiencing, and gentle touch work, among others. Together, we’ll explore and release tension, build greater awareness, and help you rediscover a sense of presence and balance in your body. By integrating these methods, we can unlock your body’s natural ability to heal, restore, and regain a sense of wholeness.

Your Somatic Support Trajectory

Shifting from your head to your body can be a challenge for many, but you don’t have to do it alone. Through a personalized 1:1 guidance program, I’ll support you step by step in learning how to become more present and connected to your body.

Together, we’ll explore physical sensations, emotional experiences, images, posture, and body movements, all in the context of what’s happening in your life. Using techniques from Somatic Experiencing, mindfulness, breathing exercises, and body-oriented coaching, you’ll gradually learn to tap into the wisdom of your body.

Our work will include both traditional settings (you and I seated together) and a variety of exercises within the space. When appropriate, and only if you’re comfortable, we may incorporate touch exercises. If needed, this may be done on the treatment table, but it’s always done with your consent and is never a requirement.

Gentle hands-on bodywork

At times, hands-on bodywork can be the most effective way to reconnect with your body. This is especially true if you’re so caught up in your head that feeling anything in your body feels nearly impossible, if you’ve developed an aversion or fear of touch due to past trauma, or if traumatic experiences in the pelvic region have left you feeling completely stuck.

To support this process, I offer various forms of bodywork and touch work which integrate the principles of Somatic Experiencing, such as trauma-sensitive pelvic therapy (Integral Pelvic Therapy) and Somatic Experiencing touch work.

In these sessions, we primarily work on a treatment table, where touch plays a key role in exploring and releasing trauma that may be held in the body. We always work at your pace, with touch that is guided by your mind, heart, and body’s readiness, ensuring that you feel safe and supported throughout the process.
